News & Letters - August 2023

Greetings!

I hope this newsletter finds you well and you’ve been soaking up the continued warmth that has been blessing the coast. I’ve noticed the oak trees are starting to drop their first acorns and the baby tree frogs are darting about. Have you noticed any changes in your body as the season shifts? The dog days of summer are here - or, at least, now I have a dog and it’s still summer!

The last call on the upcoming Vision Quest is August 16th. Does it seem strange that a massage therapy business runs an eight-day program outdoors? At Arbor Vitae Wellness, massage therapy sits within the rubric of healing, and the cornerstone of this is connection, of living an embodied life. The Vision Quest is about creating space for you to connect with the spark that moves you along your Journey. When we sit within the purity of nature and allow the rhythms of earth and sky to move in and through us we cannot help but be transformed.

In other news, I will be the assistant teacher for the healing4 class at the healing school wildernessFusion starting this fall. During this fourth year, the students are working with all things Vision: Commitment, Desire, Choice and the question ‘What and I moving toward?’ and culminates in a profound ceremony and transition-point at the end of the year. (My schedule in Yarmouth remains the same). So for everyone coming in to see me for sessions, don’t be surprised if these elements are empowered in the months to come!

In health,

Massage notes: Forearms

One thing I hear often from clients, almost on a weekly basis, is ‘Wow, I didn’t know my forearms were so tight!’ Due to many factors including all the typing and texting we do, not to mention all the daily and occupational tasks we perform with our hands, it should be no surprise. Thankfully we do not often experience a sense of restriction or tightness in our forearms unless something more chronic and inflammatory is present, such as wrist issues. Our hands are such incredible things, but all that magic connects all the way up to our elbows. All the tendons that move our fingers and wrists travel up the underside and backside of our forearms and attach near the elbow, so it’s no wonder that when therapeutic touch is applied to the forearms we feel lots of relief!

If you’ve been experiencing chronic tension, know that it does not have to remain that way. Change is possible! While anytime you’re able to receive a massage is the best time, for chronic problems a treatment plan is the ideal way to help your body shift the baseline of tension. After all, it didn’t happen overnight, and while one session will certainly help, a number of sessions is often required if you are serious about recovery. I am always happy to talk with you about treatment plans that optimize your journey to recovery and wellness, based on your own unique needs.

Come book a session today and feel the joy of increased mobility!

Vision Quest - Last call

The Vision Quest is a time of silent reflection, of looking inward toward what truly matters most in yourself. It is a time of crying up and letting go. This core of the Vision Quest is a solo fasting experience for four days and nights. The full program lasts eight days. Time is spent before the Quest preparing you for your time questing and afterwards you will be given tools to help you integrate your experience back into your life.

No prior camping experience is required.

Thumper the pup!

My dog Thumper has been coming into the studio often, and has been very well received. He is the most chill puppy and loves to just nap all throughout someones session. He is a Newfoundland/Lab mix and a very sweet pup.

*** If you have any questions, concerns, or request that Thumper not be present during your session, please contact me and we can make special arrangements. Thank you.
